English-speaking guided tour in the settlement Am Bornheimer Hang

A tour with Dr. Corinne Elsesser, Art Historian

The housing estate Bornheimer Hang was one of the larger projects of Neues Bauen in Frankfurt. Construction started in 1926 and until 1930, 1,540 apartments were completed. Large apartment blocks enclose green areas with groups of single-family row houses in their centers. The main street Wittelsbacher Allee leads uphill to the church Heilig Kreuz overlooking the Riederbruch valley. Since the housing estate connects to an existing neighborhood, Bornheim, the planners Ernst May and Herbert Boehm had to adapt to some restrictions regarding street layout or roof design.
